Mashrafe bin Murtaza is a Bangladeshi cricketer and politician. He was the former captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team in T20, Test and ODI teams and was elected Member of Parliament from Narail 2 constituency. One of the top 100 athletes in the world, he is the fifth bowler to take 100 wickets in ODIs as a captain.He rose as the best pace blower in Bangladesh in spite of the fact that he is the most victim player from injury in Bangladesh Team.

Mortaza was born in the district of Narail in south-west Bangladesh. He enjoyed playing sports such as football and badminton from a young age, and sometimes went swimming in the nearby River Chitra instead of doing school work.He has been described as an open and animated character who enjoys motorcycling. Mortaza made his introduction in ODI cricket on 23 November 2001 and Test cricket on 8 November 2001 against Zimbabwe. Mashrafe bin Murtaza is one of the most successful pace bowlers in Bangladesh. He caught the eye of former West Indies bowler Andy Roberts when he was in the Under-19 team with his aggressive, fast bowling, he was then the team’s temporary bowling coach. After playing a match for Bangladesh, Mashrafe got the right to represent the national team. He made his Test debut against Zimbabwe on 1 November 2001 at the Bangabandhu Stadium. Murtaza has taken four wickets for 106 runs in his debut. His first victim was Grand Follower.

Mashrafe made his ODI debut on December 23 of the 2001 year. He took 2 wickets for 26 runs in 8 overs with 2 balls to spare.He suffered a knee injury during the third Test of his career against England. Because of that he had to stay out of the field for two years. He announced his return in 2004 with Rahul Dravid’s wicket against India.
He did well in the 2006 Test series against England. His house was the best among the Bangladeshi bowlers in that match. Mortaza played a key role in the unforgettable win against India in the 2007 World Cup.He took four wickets for 38 runs in that game. He is credited with winning the World Cup warm-up match against New Zealand.Due to the maximum speed of Mashrafe’s ball, the supporters call him Narail Express.

In early 2009, Ashraful’s position as captain came under scrutiny and the BCB considered possible replacements. Mortaza. but the board decided to let Ashraful remain as captain. Mashrafe suffered a knee injury during the first match against the West Indies as captain and had to be released. They won that match but had to stay out.

Mashrafe received the nomination form as the Bangladesh Awami League candidate for Narail 2 constituency in the Eleventh Parliamentary Election on 11 November 2018. Although he had never been involved in politics during his cricket career, Mortaza collected an MP nomination form for 2018 Bangladeshi general election on 11 November 2018 under Awami League’s banner.
In December 2018, he won a seat in parliament, with 96% of the votes in his constituency, Narail-2. He contested in the election from Narail-2 constituency and after the declaration of results he eventually won the seat by a huge margin by 2,71,210 votes from his rival. In February 2022, he has become member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Youth and Sports Ministry of the eleventh Jatiya Sangsad.
