Khaleda Khanam “Putul” was born in 19445 in Jalpaiguri in the then undivided Dinajpur district in the Bengal Presidency of British India]. He was the third of five children. His father, Iskander Majumder, was a tea merchant, originally from Fulgazi in Noakhali district. His mother, Tayyaba Majumdar (1920-2008) is a resident of Chandbari. After the partition of India in 1949, they moved to Dinajpur.
