What Weight Is Heavyweight In UFC | UFC Weight Divisions & MMA Rankings

What Weight Is Heavyweight In UFC | UFC Weight Divisions & MMA Rankings. The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is the world’s number one mixed martial arts (MMA) competition and the promotion’s top fighters face off in a series of different weight divisions. We’ve combined the full UFC weight division and MMA rankings into one place below.

The current format consists of a total of eight UFC weight divisions for male fighters and four divisions for female competitors. There is a UFC champion for each division and once they hold it they must fight to defend that title. Strawweight is the women’s only division, and women compete in the bantamweight division. As well as more recently flyweight and featherweight. The men do not fight in the strawweight division but compete in all eight other divisions.

How Many UFC Weight Classes Are There?

To understand UFC weight divisions, we need to understand how weight divisions in MMA generally work. Since it would be of no use to us to describe all the categories, I will present them in a table, which is quite self-explanatory. Mixed martial arts in general also has a super heavyweight class outside of the UFC that has no upper weight limit, although it is not part of the UFC competition. Each weight class has a name, minimum weight and upper limit that MMA fighters competing for championship titles must meet.

Non-title UFC fights have a one-pound flexibility between divisions. There is no such thing as humility in UFC title fights, which are the most bet and watched. Also included are official UFC weight class pound-for-pound UFC rankings. It ranks the best MMA fighters regardless of their weight class. These fighters do not necessarily face off directly, but are ranked by voting.

Active UFC fighters are ranked with the top 15 UFC Fighter Rankings in each weight-class determined by a voting panel made up of members of the media. Fighters are able to compete in multiple weight division rankings at any given time. The UFC rankings exclude current and interim champions who hold the top spot in their respective weight divisions. But they may be included in the pound-for-pound rankings by vote.

UFC heavyweight weight

The weight limit in the UFC heavyweight division stands at 266 pounds for a non-title fight. On the other hand, fighters are expected to come in at or below the heavyweight limit of 265 pounds if they fight for the championship. Greg Hardy, in his fight against Maurice Greene, came close to becoming the first fighter to nearly tip the scale at heavyweight. However, given the opportunity to weigh in a second time, Hardy was able to cut excess water to come in at 266 pounds.

The UFC saw some really heavy fighters in the earlier days like John Matua, Paul Varelaans and many more. In the modern game, we see several heavyweights who have to cut weight to make 265 pounds. Like Hardy, Brock Lesnar, Shane Carwin, Francis Ngannou and Mark Hunter have come up to the heavyweight limit in the past. Interestingly, recent champions like Stipe Miocic, Daniel Cormier, Fabricio Werdum aren’t particularly big heavyweights.
