Collins appeared in all 31 of his team’s game during his freshman year. He led the team in field goal accuracy at 54.7%. In January 23, 2017, Collins was named Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) player of the week. On January 31, 2017, Collins scored 26 points and 16 rebounds in a 85–80 victory against Boston College. In February 4, 2017, Collins scored a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds in an 81–69 win over Georgia Tech.  On February 20, 2017, Collins earned ACC Player of the week honors for the second consecutive time.

Collins also led the ACC in field goal percentage and 20 points and 10 rebound games (10). Collins is the longest to score 20 points for the Wake Forest player for the 12th time in a row, and in 1996, former Damon Deacon and former NBA Hall of Famer team Duncan topped the list with 60,000 points and 300 runs in a single season. –97 season. John Collins Professional career

On June 22, 2017, Collins was selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the nineteenth overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. On July 1, 2017, he signed a disguise-fitting contract with the Hawks. During the 2013 NBA Summer League, his performances with the Hawks earned him the honor of being the first team in the All-Summer League, giving him an average of 15-15 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game with an average of 23.1 minutes in five games.

His highlight drama is Duncan at Pelicans Center Chick Diallo. Collins later saw the Hawks take action in five pre-season games and averaged .6…6 points per game, rebounds and 0.6 assists in 19.2 minutes. By the trading deadline on February 8, 2018, the record lost to the Hawks was 17. With the postsense out of reach, Collins increased the lead by a few minutes and made his fifth start of the season on 14 February in a rematch with the Pistons.
