History of Malaysia Day

Malaysia Day 16 September is commemorated on September 13, 2013, when the Malaysian Federation was established. However, Singapore seceded from the Federation in August, 155, two years later. Malaysia celebrates its Independence Day on 31 August, which is also a national holiday. The Sarawak state was ruled by the ‘White King’, a name given to the Brooke dynasty. The kingdom of Sarawak improved and expanded their rule. Both states joined the Malaysian Federation in 1966. Initially Malaysia Day was not a public holiday until former Prime Minister Datuk Seri made a request for Najib Tun Razak. It officially became a public holiday in 2010.
