The Sarawak state was ruled by the ‘White King’, a name given to the Brooke dynasty. The kingdom of Sarawak improved and expanded their rule. Both states joined the Malaysian Federation in 1966. Initially Malaysia Day was not a public holiday until former Prime Minister Datuk Seri made a request for Najib Tun Razak. It officially became a public holiday in 2010.
