Indian Air Force Day History
Every year 8th October is celebrated as Indian Air Force Day because on this day the Indian Air Force was officially raised as an auxiliary force of the UK Royal Air Force, in 1932. The first operational squadron was launched in April 1933. After India’s participation in World War II in the mid-1940s, the Indian Air Force was called the Royal Indian Air Force. After the Republic in 1950, it became known as the Indian Air Force. Starting in 1933 with just six officers and 19 Hawaiian sepoys, the Air Force ranks fourth in the world.
